Your donation helps CWILA to raise public awareness about issues of gender, race, and sexuality in Canadian literary culture by supporting our annual count of literary reviews. Your support will also allow us to fund and expand our Critic-in- Residence program and strengthen our work in social justice.

The CWILA Count was established to foster better, more equitable critical culture. In 2013, we are:

  1. Counting book reviews by gender in 25 Canadian literary outlets (up from 14).
  2. Collecting data on Canadian nationality, publishers, and genderqueer authors.
  3. Launching later this fall an analysis of systemic inequities in reviewing practices on the basis of race and sexuality.

We are planning to host a national conference on critical culture at UBC in the fall. We also hope to enrich our programming by connecting critics with under-recognized books published by small press publishers. Your support can make these things happen.
